Intrinsic quadrupole moment of the nucleon

چکیده
We address the question of the intrinsic quadrupole moment Q0 of the nucleon in various models. All models give a positive intrinsic quadrupole moment for the proton. This corresponds to a prolate deformation. We also calculate the intrinsic quadrupole moment of the ∆(1232). All our models lead to a negative intrinsic quadrupole moment of the ∆ corresponding to an oblate deformation. PACS numbers: 12.39Jh, 14.20Dh, 14.20Gk, 13.40Em

Changes in the nucleon shape are investigated by letting the nucleon deform under the strong interactions with another nucleon. The parameters of the axial deformations are obtained by minimizing the static energy of the two nucleon system at each internucleon distance R. It is shown that the intrinsic quadrupole moment of the interacting proton, Qp, is about 0.02fm at distances near R ∼ 1.25 f...
متن کاملNucleon Deformation and Atomic Spectroscopy
Recent ineleastic electron-proton scattering experiments have led to rather accurate values for the N → ∆ transition quadrupole moment Q N →∆. The experimental results imply a prolate (cigar-shaped) intrinsic deformation of the nucleon. The nonsphericity of the proton's charge distribution might be seen in the spectrum of atomic hydrogen. The possibilities and limitations for determining the ge...
متن کاملNuclear magnetic quadrupole moments in the single-particle approximation.
Static magnetic quadrupole moment of a nucleus, induced by T-and P-odd nucleon-nucleon interaction, is investigated in the single-particle approximation. Models are considered allowing for analytical solution. The problem is also treated numerically in a Woods-Saxon potential with spin-orbit interaction. The stability of results is discussed.

Stability of the π-π stacking interactions in the Ben||substituted-coronene and HFBen||substituted-coronene complexes was studied using the computational quantum chemistry methods (where Ben and HFBen are benzene and hexaflourobenzene, || denotes π-π stacking interaction, substituted-coronene is coronene molecule which substituted with four X groups, and X= NH2, CH3, OH, H, F, CF3, CN and NO). ...
متن کاملNucleon-Nucleon Effective Field Theory Without Pions
Nuclear processes involving momenta much below the mass of the pion may be described by an effective field theory in which the pions do not appear as explicit degrees of freedom. The effects of the pion and all other virtual hadrons are reproduced by the coefficients of gauge-invariant local operators involving the nucleon field. Nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shift data constrains many of th...
